Pokemon and Pokemon Go - Dangerous Occult Game

One of the fundamentals of good mental health is: "Having WORTHY & ACHIEVABLE GOALS BY WHICH TO PROGRESS YOUR LIFE, which in turn enables a strong sense of hope for the future. Sick thinkers make no progress and waste their lives." (David Riddell - Living Wisdom)

Pokemon = POcKEt MONsters (aka Pocket Demons).

Recently people have been going crazy about the new augmented reality game called Pokemon Go.

In case you aren't familiar with the game, the idea is that you download the app onto your smartphone and then it connects with Google Maps and sends you on a kind of treasure hunt that can lead you all over town.

It's surpassed Twitter even for the current number of active daily users, and even many Christians seem to be going nuts over it. I've been blocked from one Christian page for posting a link to an article that exposes Pokemon for what it is (see the CARM article at the bottom of this blog post), and other Christian pages have deleted my comments. There have been many angry Christians that have unfollowed our God or Absurdity Revolutions page because they can't handle being challenged about Pokemon.

Pokemon originated in Japan, and as someone that used to live in Japan (for 4 years) and having studied Japanese culture and religions (in particular Shintoism), it seems clear to me that Pokemon is deeply rooted in the Shinto and evolutionary worldview that dominates the Japanese worldview. In Shintoism there are many false gods that are worshiped and there are Shinto shrines all over the place in Japan. (I even once saw a shrine next to a noodle restaurant that was dedicated to the "Ramen kami" (noodle god)!) But from a Christian point of view we know that those gods are idols and behind them are demons. This is why many Japanese people also believe in ghosts and many believe they have seen ghosts - but they are really seeing demons.

However, even from a natural point of view there are serious concerns surrounding Pokemon Go.

Here's some examples of Pokemon Go news:

* Pokemon Go: Armed robbers use mobile phones to lure players into trap - The Guardian.

* Pokemon Go Is Already Sending People to the Hospital - Vocativ.

* Pokemon Go app could be used by pedophiles to lure unsuspecting young players - Daily Mail Online.

The game is aimed at youth, who are ending up wandering around outside in potentially dangerous areas of town and often not carefully watching where they are going. It's also quite addictive and you can end up wasting a lot of time playing the game.

Pokemon is Occultic

The reason for this is that Pokemon is based around occult themes. The best article I've found so far is from CARM in an article by Matt Slick which I've copied and pasted below:

Pokemon: What is it?

by Matt Slick
Pokemon, which is short for "pocket monster," has become a phenomenal success in America among children.  There are cartoons and even a movie based upon the Pokemon characters.  Almost every child in America is familiar with this fad and owns some form of Pokemon paraphernalia. But, what is Pokemon?
Pokemon was created by Nintendo in Japan in 1996.  It is a role-playing game involving cards, Nintendo Game Boy, and TV cartoons.  The cards have pictures of different Pokemon on them, more than 150 so far.  The Pokemon are supposed to be "monsters" that have special powers and share the world with humans.  The idea of the game is to have the children learn how to collect as many Pokemon as possible, train them, and use them against other people's Pokemon by invoking the various abilities of each Pokemon creature.  Pokemon can evolve and pass through various levels, 100 being the highest.  Colored energy cards are sometimes used to aid the Pokemon.

There are four basic types of cards.

  1. Basic Pokemon cards which depict creatures that fight for you against other people's Pokemon.
  2. Evolution cards depict Pokemon that are able to evolve into more powerful creatures.
  3. Energy cards are united with other cards to give the Pokemon more energy needed in carrying out the trainer's orders.
  4. Trainer cards are cards used one time and then discarded.
There are different types or categories of Pokemon: Bug, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Dragon, Electric, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, and Water.  Within each type are several different Pokemon, each possessing various abilities.  I've constructed a chart below of some of the categories of Pokemon.

Type of
Pokemon

Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Flareon, Growlithe, Magmar, Moltres, Ponyta, Rapidash, Vulpix, Ninetails Scorching, heating, running, stomping, racing,
Electric Electabuzz, Jolteon, Magnemite, Magneton, Pikachu, Raichu, Voltorb, Electrode, Zapdos Lightning bolts, anti-gravity, explosions,
Ghost Gastly, Haunter, Gengar Ultra dimensional, poison, mimicry, taunting
Poison Ekans, Arbok, Grimer, Muk, Koffing, Weezing, Nidoran(Female),Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Nidoran(Male), Nidorino, Nidoking Silence, stealth, use of poison, use of claws and biting, breaking opponents' bones.
Psychic Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Drowsee, Hypno, Jynx, Mew, Mewtwo, Mr. Mime Reading minds, teleportation, inducing headaches, high intelligence, consumes people's dreams, hypnosis, confusion, evolves.

Within the game, evolution is taught repeatedly.  There are special stones (Fire, Leaf, Moon, Thunder, and Water) that can be used to force some Pokemon to evolve into more powerful creatures.  Of course, after normal development in skill learning, various Pokemon often evolve on their own.

Is Pokemon Dangerous?

Is Pokemon dangerous?  Potentially, yes it is.  It conditions the child who plays the game into accepting occult and evolutionary principles.  Haunter can hypnotize, eat a person's dreams, and drain their energy.  Abra reads minds.  Kadabra emits negative energy that harms others.  Gastly induces sleep. Gengar laughs at peoples' fright.  Nidoran uses poison.  The Psychic type of Pokemon are among the strongest in the game.  Charmander, Haunter, Ivysaur, Kadabra, and many more evolve.  The children are taught to use these creatures to do their will by invoking colored energy cards, fights, and commands. Much of it is reminiscent of occult and eastern mysticism.
The Bible says to "Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6).1 2 Chron. 33:6 says, "And he made his sons pass through the fire in the valley of Ben-hinnom; and he practiced witchcraft, used divination, practiced sorcery, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger."
I do not see how allowing children to play with games that encourage fighting, reading of minds, use of poison, mimicry, taunting, teleportation, hypnosis, and evolution can be a good thing.  This is not training a child to righteousness, it is accepting the occult and secular evolution.  Is this what we, as Christians, want our children to meditate on?  Of course not.
If children are conditioned to accept these things in youth, then they will be more likely to accept these ideas in adulthood.  This leads people away from God's word and truth, not toward it.  This is dangerous to a person's eternal destiny.

More Information

  • On the Pokemon rules website it states, "Carry your Pokemon with you, and you're ready for anything! You've got the power in your hands, so use it!"
  • One observer of children playing the game said the children would afterwards mimic the game by summoning the Pokemon to attack others.  This is occultic.
  • Pokemon are summoned to do battle and to protect.  This is equivalent to sorcery.
  • Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water are frequent elemental themes found in Pagan religions, witchcraft, and Wicca, and are used heavily in Pokemon.
The spiritual side of the world is real.  There are spiritual elements and demonic forces at work, whose purpose is to lead astray and destroy:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places," (Eph. 6:12).
The enemy is powerful and cunning.  The only light we have is the Bible, and we need to follow it and not give ourselves or our children into the hands of those who would introduce occultic principles in a role-playing game.  Again, the Bible says...
"But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons," (1 Tim. 4:1).
There is nothing wrong with children having fun and using their imaginations, but when that fun involves the occult it is dangerous.  As Christians, we should be very concerned about what our children are involved in since they can be so easily influenced.  They don't need the influence of the occult or evolutionary theory to help them towards Christ.  They need the truth.

You are over-reacting

Addendum - two months later:
This article has generated some interesting responses.  I've been called delusional, bigoted, paranoid, and one who contributes to the decline of society because of my intolerant comments about an innocent and fun child's game.  One mother, who claimed to be a Christian, emailed me with heavy complaints and accusations and sought to justify her actions in encouraging her children to watch Pokemon.  Well, that is her prerogative.
Have I changed my opinion?  Not at all.  Am I delusional, bigoted, paranoid, and a contributor to social decay?  I certainly hope not.  And from what I see in God's word and from what I have seen in Pokemon, I still stand on what I have said.
I expect people to not like it when their comfort zone is rattled, when I don't tote the secular line and salute to "harmless children's games," even when they teach occultism.  By the way, I told the Christian mother that the Lord will hold her accountable for how her children are raised.  I asked her if she wants to continue to encourage her children to play with cards that teach casting spells, evolution, and controlling forces to do your bidding.  She emailed me back and called me some names.
Others have simply assumed a non-Christian perspective and made judgments about me and this article from their non-Christian point of view.  That isn't a problem.  They are entitled to their opinions, as am I.
Is Pokemon good?  I don't think so.  Does it contribute to impressionable children accepting occult ideas?  Yes, it does.

Another comment

I would like to thank you for your stand against Pokemon and other such materials. I understand how you feel when confronted by supposed "christians" who oppose what your trying to do here. I think that it's a sad time we live in when even the church members want to go around doing what seems right in there own eyes, and the tell you it's o.k. because "we're under grace so we don't need to follow the rules anymore". Let me say this, the majority of the problems we're facing today in christianity are here because of the lack of strong leadership. Most pulpits today are delivering feel good sermons that have little spiritual effect, while our remaining power dwindles away due to the gross sins being committed right under our noses. I personally have been in churches that were supposedly "filled with the annointing" and watched the children in the seats in front of me playing Pokemon & Dungeons and Dragons while the parents "worshipped God". Pretty sad.
But, let me encourage you to continue fighting the good fight and not budge even one inch in your convictions.  Many times people in the church talk about unity, which is important, but not at the cost of compromise.  We will all stand before the Lord and give an account for every word and action, so let the truth shine out of you without reservation!
The church needs some warriors today who will stand up for what the Word of God tells us is right, regardless of any mans' opinions.  Be that warrior!
Remember, the fear of man is a snare to your soul!  God Bless, David

Testimony

I also received this testimony from a fan of our facebook page:

Before I was saved, I considered myself an avid gamer of some sort, I've played a wide variety of games, mostly RPGs including the renowned titles such as the Witcher series, Dark Souls, The Elder Scrolls, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and several more titles in the same shade as these games, and Pokemon. As a freshman college student, I spent about $200 on all those digital games I bought from Steam and play them for several hours a day.Given the quite dark nature of these games, I was 'conscious' of God back then (but my only thought that I was saved and could sin all I want, and get to Heaven), but I never took it seriously, when I played these games, I used various excuses like "at least these games will teach me morals", "these games can show me some styles in self-defense", "these games can keep me from thinking of food", it wasn't far from addiction, it became my drug, my everything, I once thought if it was real, it could be my bride. Then I bought myself a Bible, it was quite hard to get into, I mean the habit of reading, but after a successful combination of different Internet resources and being careful in discerning what is and what isn't I managed to get a grasp of Jesus. Then like a miracle, my attitude changed, and my hours of playing diminished gradually, until I resorted to deleting all of my games from my system, seeing it consumed a large amount of space; it was replaced with fervor to preach to the lost.

In conclusion, as Christians we are called to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom, and that includes calling people to repent of their sin and to follow Christ the King and submit to his ways. These aren't just rules but are a relationship with Christ where we want to follow his ways because we respect His word, His truth, and accept that behind any rules and commands in scripture there are good reasons that involve what is best for us and for all people.

Christina Drake says
I don’t mean to be a downer, however, the name Pokemon brings back devastating memories.
Up until 2008, my children loved Pokemon… Always received the cards and toys from me and other relatives. Pokemon was “in”.
One of my children had a history of night terrors that not even medicine could help with. Countless nights waking up to him streaming eyes wide open yet still in his dream.
I became a Christian in 2008 and attended a very informative life giving church.
I had learned about how real demons are and how dangerous they can be when we open doors to them.
Long story short…my son, during one of his night terrors, pointed to the sofa and could hardly speak because of the terror he was feeling….he named the Pokemons he saw life size on the sofa…I went to our pastor and told him what was going on and did some research on Pokemon
I was horrified to discover the names of the Pokemons were names of ancient demons…children accross the world were summonsing these Pokemons on the playground and some had been hurt…
I then followed instructions from my pastor and prayed the blood of Jesus around my home and over my children and bound the demons and cast them away from us.
Since then my son never had another night terror and behavior problems my children were taking medication for…progressively left and the early on were free of medication!
Not only is Pokemon no longer allowed in my family… Neither is Digimon or Dragonball z.
I now am extremely watchful of what my children watch, listen to, or do.
Demons are more real than anyone wants to admit to and they are subtle as Satan was in the garden of Eden.
I’m not saying everyone must do what we did, but I’m just testifying to what I have seen and experienced.
Father God says His people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge…
Please prayerfully consider what dangers may come from Pokemon and any other games that appeal to your children.

POST EDIT: It should come as no surprised that U.S. statistics show a 1600% increase in paganism / wicca in recent times, which could very well make it the fastest growing religion in the USA.

  1. Ban this... The game focuses on a lot more of Christian values than what leads on. It teaches the golden rule, loving thy neighbors, turning away from evil, and so on. If His Eminence, The Pope, can be okay and support a wonderful part of everyone's childhood and see more law abiding and God fearing people come up from pokémon, so be it. Just remember, Niantic made primarily churches as available points of interest. They WANT us to visit these places and yes they even include parts of our current society model, but it's to our discretion to decide where to go and not. My children are limited to going to churches only for pokémon go. The devil is not at work here. Don't mistake that. Find something that actually does set an obvious controversy and stop trying to come up with one and making God's children suffer for it. This is no different from raising a dog and training it to defend your home.... Oh wait, your using the aide of a creature that has superior strength to a human to defend your home as a minion to your domain.... How foolish does that sound? Just as foolish as attacking what was intended to be something of a kids imagining. Nothing more.

    1. The pope is an antichrist therefore who cares what the pope says or is ok with! Just because Niantic made churches as available points of interest proves nothing! All it does is show Niantic has made the churches part of the game like it has with the rest of the world. How does Pokemon Go glorify our Father in heaven through His precious, holy and glorious only begotten Son Jesus Christ the King of kings and the Lord of lords? Does the game help lead the children and the rest of those who play it to the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Lord our God? Does Pokemon Go teach those who play it Christian values? I wonder now how many children and other people on Sundays will be playing this stupid game rather then worshipping our Father in heaven and our Lord Jesus Christ? I wonder how many children on Sundays will care more about playing Pokemon Go then the sermon from their pastors? Let me say this. Before I was born again of the Holy Spirit. I was in the occult and belonged to several occult secret societies. Pokemon Go is most definitely an occult game.

    2. you lost me at: "The devil is not at work here [churches]." You show you know nothing about what you are talking about. One of the church's jobs is to kick devil butt, putting them under our feet, and getting demons out of people's lives... Casting out demons is a sign that should follow a person of faith in Jesus. I've seen more demons get cast out of people in churches than outside of them, and i have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is churches not casting out any demons and hording them instead. I have a problem with the fact that I've seen too many churches tolerate demons while turning aside from Jesus' way. I pray you have your senses trained to discern good and evil.

The Devil does not hold up a sign and make everything he does obvious. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. go watch a lion hunt and you will see that they sneak and hide to get close to their prey. In the Garden He did not announce his trickery or lies to Adam and Eve. We must pray for discernment before we become Prey. Peace.

    5. Since it's OK with the Pope,it should be OK with Christians!? Are you kidding me? The Pope recently was on camera praying to the Allah! He said that Jesus' work on the cross was a failure! As a Christian, you are called to follow Christ, not the Pope!!!

    6. Who says the Pope is the anti-Christ? How dare you assume something about a man you do not know personally....he may speak out about certain things but who are we to judge our fellow man? Christ himself said he who is without sin cast the first stone!......We are told...judge not least you be judged!......A follower of Christ should never tell another man where he is going wrong in life......Take the log out of your own eye before you take the speck out of your brothers!

    7. You quote Scripture accurately, but this man, the Pope, is "not" a Christian, so speaking out against the false doctrine he supports and preaches is something Christ, Himself, did to the religious people. He (the Pope) is leading millions to Hell with the false beliefs/doctrines of the Catholic Church, which is a religion, not a true following of Christ and the Bible. If you are not aware of this, or if you cannot comprehend this, then I would suggest you cry out to Christ to open your eyes, mind and heart to lead you to true salvation. Now, Biblically, there will be a false prophet during the Tribulation, and many believe that it may be the Pope. Also, Nicodemus predicted such a thing regarding this Pope. And listening to some of the things he is saying, and seeing what he is doing, I can believe this to be true. But, most importantly, if you read Scripture and believe it, then you know that you (we) are to speak out against the lies that deceive people, and as stated above, this man (the Pope) is NOT a representative of Christ, but someone who actually elevates Mary above Him (Christ). Don't believe me? You can ignore their prayers to her, but walk into a Catholic Church and look where her statue (a false idol, by the way) is in relation to the statues of Christ. In the Catholic Churches I have been in, Mary's is easily accessable and even has a prayer stool in front of if whereas Christ's was placed out of public domain and didn't have a stool. But this is to point out how the church places a person above the Savior, Jesus, and, again, these statues are false idols, regardless of who/what they represent. You have misunderstood the Scripture. We are to lovingly share Truth with the lost, and if you don't let someone know where they are out of the will of God, according to Scripture, they have no way of knowing, because Scripture says the lost shall know "by hearing." We can, of course, also share in writing, as I am sharing with you. I appreciate your heart, but know that the Scripture you shared (in good faith) was used incorrectly. Scripture says we will know them by their fruit, and since the Catholic Churches' doctrines are not in line with Scripture we can know that their "fruit" is bad, and will ultimately consign souls to Hell. Oh, I was a Catholic for years, but even before I was "born again" twenty years ago, I had left the church because I knew they were not teaching Truth. I pray you receive this brief sharing in the way it was intended, which is in the love of Christ. If you, me, and all, will know the "truth" (we can only know by being born again) it will set them free from misunderstandings, lies, sins and ultimately Hell, itself.

    9. Several people have already hit the main issues with MyNameIsSilver's comment, but there is one point left that I would like to cover, regarding the comparison to dogs:

Dogs are in the physical domain, over which we are given dominion:

Genesis 1:27-29 ; New International Version (NIV)

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
      in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

On the other hand, there are many warnings—nay, commands—regarding sorcery, the occult, and other interactions with spirits. That is, we are forbidden to attempt to wield power over/in that domain. I have included a link (listed at bottom) to a quick search I did for a list of several relevant verses, but I will list a couple of the most relevant here:

      Leviticus 19:31 ESV
Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

      Deuteronomy 18:9-14 ESV
When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, ...

Thus, the comparison to dogs in MyNameIsSilver's comment is a false analogy, and doesn't apply; the idea of controlling a spiritual entity, or even a similar, make-believe entity (i.e. a Pokémon) does not correspond to controlling a physical entity, such as a dog.

    10. [CONTINUED FROM SEPARATE REPLY DUE TO CHARACTER LIMIT]

Additionally, I see this issue as being clouded by a secondary-importance debate over whether or not Pokémon is really occult/demonic. Some people have given testimonies to the postive, and indeed we must believe them, or we are judging them. Nevertheless, the main issue with Pokémon is that it is both imaginary and meaningless—a lethal combination. Consider everything that is sinful—every craft of Satan. Sexual immorality, lying, stealing, cheating, etc., etc. In every case, Satan is able to convince people that what they are doing is okay and/or somehow justified. He gets them to forget reality and act on a false notion. Now, how much better for Satan if he could get us to spend our days in an entire *world* apart from reality, spending hours upon hours going about ultimately pointless tasks and applying one's mind towards learning a bunch of rules about a world that doesn't even exist, and perhaps even feeling morally satsified about it due to the presence of some vaguely moral lessons along the way (The "Golden Rule," instead of the "teachings of Jesus," and "turning away from evil" without ever showing that evil is defined as opposition to God)?! Our enemy, Satan, is very cunning. Don't forget that. And the more he can
      a) preoccupy you with meaningless tasks/thoughts
      and
      b) make life/morality less about Jesus,
the easier it is to ensure your spiritual frailty—your distance from Jesus—your destruction. Pokémon combines both (a) and (b), each in fairly strong measure. Therefore, it is not a good thing to pursue. Indeed, it is deleterious to your walk with Jesus, which is your life.

Also taken from the list turned up by my search are these next verses. I hope you will consider them carefully.

      1 Peter 5:8 ESV
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

      Hebrews 13:8-9 ESV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.

      Galatians 5:19-21 ESV
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
[Note the phrase ". . . and things like these . . . ," as it appears to bear upon a game with principles such as that found in Pokémon.]

So there is a bit of what I can contribute to thsi discussion. I hope it helps you see the issue more clearly, however that may be!

  2. The Pope isn't eminent in my view, and I don't believe he is eminent in God's eyes either given the millions of people being led astray by him into thinking that they are saved when they are not. He's also endorsed evolution and the Big Bang - pagan anti-God theories that are based in atheism and are contrary to the clear teaching of God's word. I'm not convinced that you're one of God's children. Have you repented and trusted in Christ alone for your salvation? And do you accept the clear teaching of God's word of a 6 day creation and young earth (and no evolution)? Are you also ok with occult books and movies like Harry Potter?

Many people don't and can't see the truth around them, for they have eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear. You just do your job of showing the love of Jesus and telling the truth about this stuff. Have a Jesus blessed day!

  5. This does seem like overreacting, sorry. Pokémon has been around for about 20 years and there really hasn't been any real problems caused by the games, cards, anime and other merchandise, otherwise we would be seeing plenty of consequences today like kids saying they got into witchcraft or other strange beliefs because of Pokémon by now. Even when it started getting very popular in the U.S. around 1999, certain pastors were preaching against it and getting their facts wrong. I notice preachers/Bible teachers who preach against pop culture fads of the moment usually get their facts and research wrong and appear ignorant/backwards. Pokémon are somewhat like pets, not sorcery. Their evolution is really more like metamorphosis. These preachers get afraid of harmless things and believe in legalism.

Sorry, but the devil isn't working in Pokémon. The devil today is working more on homosexuals, trying to cause race wars, helping liberalism gain power, working on some of the music industry, making women accept abortions and working on things that actually do matter and affect lives.

  8. Pokémon is not demonic or witchcraft. This is a tired agenda that some ignorant leaders in a few Churches that people have picked up and used to religiously beat kids into church submissive control over their imaginations. The name alone translates directly to "Pocket Monster", not "pocket demon" like a lot of Churches have lied about to push this agenda. The common Japanese language used has a word for demon, it is "Oni" Another lie pushed is that it is about witchcraft because you "summon" the Pokémon to fight in battle. It is based on competition, hence the title Pokémon trainer. Also the whole thing is based on the creator of Pokémon growing up in a rural area and loved catching bugs, lizards, frogs, etc. As a kid. Being fascinated with the creatures special traits or "powers" to catch other bugs and animals and such. Example being frogs and their long tongues able to catch flies, that seems magical to kids because that's how they view things when their young using their imagination. The creator of Pokémon, his rural village and surrounding land became swallowed up by the city, he wanted to give kids a taste of his wonderful childhood. That's where Pokémon came from. And anyone who has damaged kids by perpetuating this lie that it is demonic and witchcraft are subject to Gods judgement because he is not one to hold any sin more harmful than another. I know this because I have had to council kids later on as a youth pastor who were hurt by the church because of this. Yes anything that becomes an obsession with a kid needs to be watched, and can get in the way of anyone's relationship with God. but that has not been the aim of most of the church's in this regard. Here's a posted link to the facts recorded early on in an interview by time magazine with the creator of Pokémon right when it started getting popular just before the church took on this lie just in case. Also this is the original and in the time archives, there is a false interview circulating that people are using as "truth". All you have to do is check the archives.

    1. God don't care if folks and their kids enjoy things, just as long as it don't come before our first love which is Jesus. I cannot see a person going to hell over playing a game. Parents should lay down ground rules for anything their kids do, this is no exception. However, parents should teach their kids that its not real and just for fun. Training your kids in the Lord is very imnportant, I agree but, you cannot have such a tight reign on kids that they hate God from the beginning.

  9. May God help us to know the scriptures which is our only safeguard and also who the angel of light is.Satan takes control of every mind that is not decidedly under the control of the Spirit of God.

  11. This is absolutely absurd. I was raised by religious people like you. My dad was a pastor. They ruined my childhood. Never discourage a child's inborn sense of wonder and magic. There is a special place in hell for people that destroy a child's imagination.

  12. Good grief. Ridiculous over-reactions like this, and seeing "the Devil" everywhere, is one of the main reasons I'm no longer a Christian. So thanks for reminding me I guess.

Spend less time trying to find evil in the things that confuse you and more time stopping the evil in front of you.

  14. Yes, i do admit that pokemon has its flaws and that its origins may be questionable, but mind you, aren't all of the things and beings on this earth imperfect. Please do all the necessary research first on the manga, anime and games of the franchise, before posting negative comments- like for example, the game was based on insect collecting by Satoshi Tajiri when he was a child (see wikipedia), another point is can you equate the time, effort, creativity and even the money needed for a game/manga/anime to become successful first in Japan before crossing international territories?? And the pokemon named haunter, ghastly or gengar- ghost type pokemon-did you see finish at least one season of the pokemon anime series, wherein their dream eating powers where used to suck away nightmares from sleep deprived people (impossible in real life but symbolizes good will to people), and haunter also made funny faces to a gym leader to cure her of stressed-out predicament. My point is sir, when there is children having nightmares because of playing pokemon games/cards too much then advise their parents of moderate gaming, and encourage picnics, fishing, household chores, and making homework because too much of a hobby or anything is bad, and moderation is key. And you can always find ways to change people for the better like say in a sermon of a priest, say that don't just go to church just because it's a POKESTOP, you should go to church to pray, worship and thank God and Jesus for without their love and sacrifice none of the games, anime and manga we love would be possible. And our good behavior in church should be extended to wherever we are, and whoever we are talking to.
